The UJ Blockchain team and Centre for Cyber-Physical Food, Energy, and Water Systems (CCP-FEWS) members attended the Blockchain Conference at the CSIR International Conference Centre in Pretoria. The event featured leading experts discussing blockchain's transformative potential, with an engaging panel moderated by Dr. Sebonkile Thaba of the University of Johannesburg. Panellists included Carel de Jager, CSIR’s DLT/Blockchain initiative leader, Anushka Soma-Patel, an independent consultant, and Prof. Nnamdi Nwulu, Director of CCP-FEWS and Chairholder for UJ Blockchain.
Prof. Nwulu’s presentation, “Empowering the Future: Blockchain Education and Awareness,” emphasized the necessity of fostering technical rigour as the foundation for blockchain development. He highlighted the Centre’s work in demystifying blockchain through boot camps and structured training programs designed to simplify complex concepts. Prof. Nwulu also discussed integrating blockchain with emerging technologies like IoT and AI, citing the Food Trolley App and smart food processing systems as practical examples developed by the Centre.
